It’s all about Pakistan’s strategic choice:  US Asst. Secretary Alice G Wells

The US is waiting to see the counter-measures taken by Pakistan to fight against the terrorist havens in the territory.  The Assistant Secretary for the South and Central Asian affairs and Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Alice G Wells asserted that the Trump Administration is eagerly watching the steps taken by the Pakistan the next weeks and months in its war against terrorism and moving quickly on its own strategy to fight against terror groups.

During the US state Secretary Rex Tillerson’s trip to the region, he hit back at the Pakistan. After that, Wells in a briefing to the visit said that it is all about Pakistan’s strategic choice. Pakistan needs to “move quickly” to demonstrate good faith and efforts to use its influence to create the conditions that will get the Taliban to the negotiating table.

A week after the visit, the top US Administrating official revealed about the importance of Pakistan to move quickly in the steps for eradicating terror. During a press meeting, she said this is about Pakistan’s sovereign choice. This is not about America giving dictation. We’ve described our strategy, we’ve described a very important role for Pakistan, who we see as a very important country in the region, but it’s up to them whether or not they want to work with us on this strategy. And if they don’t, as the Secretary said, we’ll adjust accordingly,  Wells said.
