An Emirati soldier accused of ramming a police officer to escape from an arrest. The 30-year-old Emirati accused did not show up in the Court of First Instance in the first hearing of his trial held recently.

The soldier is on trial for injuring a police officer after he intentionally drove his car into him. The court has been sentenced to one year in jail for the soldier.

Prosecutors accused him of intentionally driving his car into an on-duty police officer, injuring him, and damaging a public property that is a police car. The cop was among other police officers who were executing an arrest warrant against the accused on August 21.

A forensic report showed the police officer was left with a left knee injury and needed treatment for some time before full recovery. The court ruling may be appealed within the legal deadline.
