Student faces fatwa for reciting verses from Gita

“Islam is not so weak that we will be dismissed from it just for reciting Bhagwad Gita or wearing a particular kind of costume,” said the 15-year-old student, Alia Khan, on Thursday, after she was delivered a fatwa by Dar-ul-Uloom of Deoband.

The Islamic Academy delivered the fatwa to Khan on January 2 for reciting the cantos of the Hindu divine book at an occasion in her institute recently.

The girl said, “I dressed up as Krishna and recited Gita as part of a competition. They issued the fatwa. The Class 10 student won the second prize for her presentation and was also assumed a cash prize of Rs 25,000.

She was far ahead issued the decree through the Ulemas or Islamic scholars, who labeled her action un-Islamic. The function was prearranged by the Uttar Pradesh administration to mark the 101 years of the historic LucknowDeal of Freedom Struggle which was based on well-known independence combatant, Bal Gangadhar Tilak’sexplanation of Bhagwad Gita.
