Tricolour rises high as Indian boxers sweep gold medals!

Indian Boxer Mary Kom claimed gold at the Indian Open Boxing which takes place in New Delhi. Pwilao Bsumatary who contested in the 64 Kg category was the first among the Indian Women to win a gold. She defeated Thailand’s Sudaporn Seesondee 3-2 to bring India a gold.

Another Assam boxer, Lovlina Borgohain claimed the welterweight (69kg) gold among women, getting the better of compatriot Pooja.

L Sarika Devi who contested in the 60 kg category was only able to garner silver as she lost to Finland’s Mira Potkenon who is an Olympic silver medalist. She lost to Mira Potkenon 2-3.
 
But in men’s category, a complete sweep was denied as a traditional powerhouse like Cuba and Uzbekistan showed their might.
 
In men’s 91 kg category Snjeet brought home Gold after defeating Uzbekistan’s Sanjar Tursunov. He defeated the Uzbek boxer 3-2.
 
 
In 60 kg category, Manish Kaushik won the gold without even giving a punch as he was given a walkover by his Mongolian rival Battumur Misheelt, who pulled out owing to a cut sustained on his forehead during his semifinal bout.
 
But Satish Kumar who fought in +91 kg category,Dinesh Dagar who contested in the 69 kg category had to contend with a silver medal after losing their opponents.
 
Later, Devanshu Jaiswal (81kg) was up against Cuba’s David Gutierrez.
 
Although the crowd favourite gave a good account of himself in defensive tactics, the Cuban connected enough with his jabs to score a split 4-1 victory.
 
Saweeta Bora who is a former silver medalist also had to contend with a silver medal.
