Kochi Coast Rich in Natural Gas Reserves; India all set to be Amongst Biggest Economic Powers

Three places including Kochi has been found with deposits of natural gas. Along with Kochi coast, Krishna Godavari basin and Cauvery basin have also been found with a total of almost 130 million cubic feet hydrate gas accumulations. The discovery was made by American Geological Survey.

If this can be retrieved, it will meet the energy needs of the country for 300 years. One third of the total deposits found is in Kochi, which augurs well for the development of the state.

India is trying to develop the technology to retrieve the deposits by collaborating with U.S Geological Survey and Japanese drilling Company. If this can be used properly, India could well emerge as one of the top economic powers in the world.

Oil Industries Development Board, ONGC Gail, Oil India, Indian Oil corporation will all combine to take care of the expense for the technology.
