If You talk in phone while you drive, your mobile phone will be seized for 24 hours

If you are planning a trip to Uttarakhand on this weekend, you might wanna be a little more careful while you drive, more so if you have the habit of talking on the phone while you drive. This caution is not necessarily about all the hazards that can come about from such bad driving habits, but then a new rule introduced in Uttarakhand gives the authorities the license to confiscate your phone and keep it for 24 hours if you are found taking on it while you drive.

The Nainital high court (HC) on Friday while delivering a series of directions to improve road safety in the state authorised the transport department to “seize mobile phones (of offenders) temporarily for a period of 24 hours after issuing a valid receipt.”

Incidentally, the HC had last month, adopting a strict stance on the use of mobile phones while driving, ordered cancellation of driving licenses of the violators. Observing that drivers using cell phones were endangering their lives as well as those of others, the court had said that until the state government issues the necessary amendments, a fine of Rs 5,000 should be charged from every violator.
