Mumbai: Indian equity indices ended lower in the volatile session on December 12. broad-based selling pulled benchmark indices lower during the second half of the session. At close, BSE Sensex was down 377.50 points or 0.54% at 69,551.03. NSE Nifty ended at 20,906.40, down 90.70 points or 0.43%.
About 1424 shares advanced, 1822 shares declined, and 83 shares remained unchanged. Top gainers were HDFC Life, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Auto, SBI Life Insurance and Axis Bank. Sun Pharma, Maruti Suzuki, Titan, NTPC, Reliance Industries, L&T, M&M, IndusInd Bank, Infosys, HDFC Bank, Tata Motors, Bharti Airtel, and Tech M were some of the top losers.

The BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices settled 0.4% and 0.27% lower, respectively. Among sectors, Nifty Metal and Media indices closed lower. The Nifty Realty index (down 1.95%), the Nifty Auto index (down 0.7%), and the Nifty Pharma index (down 0.45%) also settled lower.
