UK Trains 32,000 Ukrainians in Operation Interflex to Counter Russian Threat

Under Operation Interflex, led by the UK with contributions from partner countries, approximately 32,000 Ukrainian individuals have undergone military training within the UK. The initiative aims to prepare these individuals to return to Ukraine and bolster the Ukrainian Army’s defense against Russian forces.

Colonel James Thurstan, heading the operation, conveyed to a gathering of international journalists that the program focuses on imparting fundamental warfare skills to Ukrainian recruits. The mission’s primary objective is to produce resilient and effective soldiers possessing the offensive mindset crucial for success on the battlefield. This information is shared based on a field visit invitation extended by the UK government.

Col Thurstan leads the operation with support from instructors representing other nations, including Australia and New Zealand. He emphasized that the training is tailored to empower volunteer recruits, many of whom lack prior military experience, with the necessary skills for frontline combat. The training not only enhances their chances of survival in conflict but also instills a defensive spirit essential for prevailing in the war.

The UK government, a significant contributor to Ukraine during the conflict, has allocated £2.3 billion in support for the years 2022 and 2023. India’s stance on the Ukrainian crisis, as stated by V. Muraleedharan, the Minister of State in the Ministry of External Affairs, underscores a consistent call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and an end to violence since the conflict’s onset.
