Woman raped on marriage pretext; case registered on MD

It seems that women are not safe anywhere- be it her home or workplace. And this is one such case.

The Tughlak Road police station in New Delhi has registered a rape case against the managing editor of a Hindi news channel.

When working at a gymnasium, the victim alleged that she met the accused Umesh Kumar. Kumar had offered her a job for the post of a vice president in his company. In April 2017, she joined at the said post in the organization.

In June last year, he called her at his residence and raped her on the pretext of marriage. This continued for quite some time. Then, in August, she was invited to a five-star hotel in Lutyen’s Delhi, where she was sexually assaulted again on the same pretext.

She was informed much later that Kumar is a married man and has two kids. Heated arguments between the two followed, and the accused even gave her money to keep the relationship a secret.

The victim has their chats saved on her mobile phone.

She filed a complaint on February 13, after which a medical examination of the accused was conducted on February 16. A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered, too.

The hotel authorities have confirmed the stay of the accused at the hotel as a booking in his name has been found.
