No civilians killed in ‘law & order incidents’ since Article 370 was repealed; Report

On the third anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 on Friday, J&K Police said that not a single civilian had been killed in any law and order incident in Kashmir since 5 August 2019, when the centre repealed Article 370. However, 284 people have been killed in terrorism-related incidents in Kashmir since 5 August 2019, including 174 police and security forces personnel and 110 civilians.

The Kashmir Zone Police provided comparative figures of violence three years before and three years after the 5th of August, 2019. Police said in a tweet: Security scenario in Kashmir; pre and post abrogation of Article 370, that there were 438 law and order incidents from 5 August 2019 to 4 August 2022, compared to 3686 incidents in the three years prior to Article 370’s repeal. According to the Police, 290 security forces personnel and 191 civilians were killed between 5 August 2016 and 4 August 2019, three years prior to the repeal of Article 370.

According to the report, 124 civilians were killed in law and order situations in the three years preceding the repeal. Terror incidents, according to police, have also decreased over the last three years. From 5 August 2016 to 4 August 2019, 930 terror incidents were reported, with the number of such incidents decreasing to 617 in the last three years. From 5 August 2016 to 4 August 2019, 290 security personnel, including police officers, and 191 civilians were killed. Over the next three years, 174 security personnel and 110 civilians were killed.
