Hollywood star Emma Watson bagged the first-ever Genderless Acting Award for the Best Actor category at the MTV Movie and TV Awards recently.
Watson, who won for her role as Belle in ‘Beauty and the Beast’, said that the non-gender specific award says something about how we perceive the human experience.
“MTV’s move to create a genderless award for acting will mean something different to everyone, but to me, it indicates that acting is about the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes,” she said while accepting her award.
Watson beat out Hailee Steinfeld (“The Edge of Seventeen”), Daniel Kaluuya (“Get Out”), James McAvoy (“Split”), Hugh Jackman (“Logan”) and Taraji P. Henson (“Hidden Figures”).
She thanked presenter Asia Kate Dillon, the “Billions” star and first gender non-binary identifying actor to be cast on a major TV series, for teaching her that empathy and the ability to use your imagination should have no limit.
