On day 1 Loknath Behera proposes a special wing for Vigilance

DGP Loknath Behera who took in charge of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) on Monday, said that he would form an intelligence wing in the department.
Behera was transferred as the director of Vigilance after TP Senkumar was reinstated as the Police Chief, following a Supreme Court order.
Behera said that the priority of Vigilance will be to curb corruption that affects the public directly.
He said he had asked the newly appointed officers to study the pending cases in detail. The officer said he would bring in changes in the Vigilance Manual if needed.
“I will carry on with the good steps initiated by my predecessor Jacob Thomas,” Behera said.
Behera had been given the additional charge of Vigilance chief after Jacob Thomas was asked to go on leave last month following harsh criticism from the Kerala High Court.
Behera said he would ensure that the judiciary was satisfied with the VACB’s functioning. On the row which led to Senkumar’s return as police chief and his transfer to the Vigilance wing, Behera said the government had the right to transfer an official.
