Pakistan will elect new prime minister on Tuesday

The new prime minister will be elected by Pakistan’s parliament on Tuesday to replace the recently ousted premier, Nawaz Sharif.

The 67-year-old embattled leader was forced out of office when he was disqualified by the Supreme Court on Friday for dishonesty. The apex court ruled that corruption cases be filed against him and his children over the Panama Papers scandal.

President Mamnoon Hussain has summoned National Assembly, the lower house of parliament, on Tuesday at 3:00 PM to elect the new leader of the house. Separately, the National Assembly Secretariat has announced the schedule for the election of the new prime minister.
