Abu Dhabi set to host ‘National Coffee Championship’

Abu Dhabi ready to launch 8th edition of UAE ‘National Coffee Championship’at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from December 12-14.

The hunt is now on for potential victors in the three official competitions that will form part of the championships, certified by World Coffee Events and sanctioned by the Specialty Coffee Association.

The best of this region’s most talented and passionate baristas will be going head-to-head in the National Cezve/Ibrik Championship (which demonstrates the coffee making traditions of the Middle East), the National Brewers Cup Championship (during which competitors filter and brew by hand, the resulting coffees being judged by a panel of experts) and the National Cup Tasters Championship (when competitors get to prove how accurate their palate and sense of smell is, in identifying the subtlest differences between almost identical coffees).

Joanne Cook, Managing Director of SIAL Middle East, says that the specialty coffee industry “is a key part of the region’s rapidly expanding food and beverage industry.”

Khalid Al Mulla, National Coordinator of the SCA’s UAE Chapter, adds that “bringing the region’s most exceptional baristas together and showcasing their talents to 16,000-plus trade visitors is an incredible step towards increased awareness and knowledge of the specialty coffee industry.”

If you’re a barista or coffee professional and think you’ve got what it takes to be a winner in any (or all) of the three competitions, send an email to: [email protected].
