Padmaavat becomes a box office storm despite violent protests

Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed Padmaavat which faced a lot of protests and violent reaction, especially from Karni Sena seems to be having a dream run at the box-office the movie is reported to have entered the 100 crore club in just 4 days.

The movie which was released on 25th January stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, and Ranveer Singh. Th movie is based on 6th-century Sufi poet Malik Muhammed Jayasi’s Padmavat.

Leading Boxoffice collection site Boxofficeindia.com had noted that the movie has collected about 30 crores from Sunday alone and thus making the movie cross the 100 crore barrier in just 4 days.

Padmaavat, initially titled Padmavati was scheduled for a December 1 release last year. But owing to massive violent protests, the makers decided to defer its release. Moreover, the film was stuck on the Central Board of Film Certification. The film hadn’t been given a certificate for screening on time. The CBFC chief suggested a few modifications after consulting a few experts and the makers agreed to incorporate them. The title of the movie was changed from Padmaavati to Padmaavat.

Apart from India, the movie is also churning great money from overseas markets especially the US, UK, and Canada.
