PM Narendra Modi to inaugurate India’s first 14-lane Expressway : Watch Video

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Delhi-Meerut Expressway on Saturday. The Delhi section of Delhi-Meerut Expressway is completed in a record time of 17 months. The expressway will ease traffic congestion in the national capital and reduce the travel time between Delhi and Meerut to just about 10 minutes from the earlier duration of an hour. It is a part of Eastern Peripheral Expressway, which the country’s first 14-laned expressway.

PM Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for Delhi-Meerut expressway project in December 2015. The project included construction of 74 Km long Delhi-Dasna-Meerut 14 lane Expressway and upgradation of 22 Km long Dasna-Hapur section of NH-24 in three phases.

Key Things to Know About Delhi-Meerut Expressway

1.Delhi-Meerut Expressway, built at a cost of Rs 841.50 crore, connects Sarai Kale Khan in south-east Delhi to UP Gate (NH-24) and is approximately 8.71 km long.

2.From Dasna there will be a completely new alignment up to Meerut.

3.The alignment will terminate on inner ring road or Meerut bypass near Railway crossing at Meerut.

4.The Eastern Peripheral Expressway has a six-lane expressway and 4+4 lane highway.

5.The expressway is constructed under four packages with the three packages Nizamuddin Bridge to UP Border, UP Border to Dasna and Dasna to Hapur project.

6.The fourth package is a new alignment of Delhi Meerut Expressway from Dasna to Meerut.

7.It also has service roads, cycle tracks, flyovers, elevated sections, major and minor bridges, railway over bridges, vehicular underpasses and pedestrian underpasses.

8.Delhi-Meerut Expressway is an access controlled highway and 31 traffic signals have been removed from the stretch.

Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday said the Eastern Peripheral Expressway was completed in a record 500 days and will rid Delhi of traffic jams while significantly reducing pollution. “This is the first national highway in the country with 14 lanes and has several features that would reduce pollution. It has a 2.5 metre wide cycle track on either side, a vertical garden on the Yamuna bridge, solar lighting system and drip irrigation for plants at the roadside,” Gadkari said. He said he expects the entire Expressway to be completed by March next year.
