Former UN Chief Ban Ki-moon hit back at Trump on Paris Climate Accord

Ban Ki-Moon, former UN Chief hit back at Trump on his withdrawal decision from the Paris Climate Accord. He shared his concern over the US decision. He called the US president Trump is On ‘Wrong Side Of History’.

The former Secretary-General of the United Nations joined other members of The Elders, a group created by Nelson Mandela, on the procession through the city before a discussion on world peace. Ban said despite Trump’s decision to pull out of the historic Paris agreement, he remained heartened by a US civil society campaign to continue to honor the environmental deal. He also criticized Trump’s vision is short-sighted and economically irresponsible and scientifically wrong. Ban also hoped that whole worlds will be united in moving ahead with this Paris climate change agreement.

In June, Trump announced the start of a three-year process to pull out of the 2015 agreement, signed by 195 countries, on the grounds that it would put the US at an economic disadvantage. Paris Climate Accord is an agreement within the United Nations Framework, which mainly focused on Climate Change and dealing the problem by controlling greenhouse gas emissions. It also includes developing adaptation and finance strategies, starting in the year 2020.
