Having put to bat, India managed only 148 in its full quota of overs, thanks to Virat Kohli’s 47(38) and M S Dhonis 32(24). Suresh Raina chipped in with a 27(20). David Willey and Liam Plunkett were the pick of the bowlers for England with both going under less than 5 runs per over and picking a wicket each.
India would have hoped for Kuldeep Yadav’s legspin to do the magic once again, but then the English team attacked and neutralised the Chinaman threat. The other yadav, Umesh too had a bad day, both going for over 8.5 runs per over. In the end, it was Alex Hales composed 58(41) studded with 4 boundaries and 3 sixes that took English team through. Jonny Bairstow’s fireworks at the end 28(18) proved crucial too.
