Renowned actor Chandra Mohan passes away

Iconic Telugu actor Chandra Mohan, celebrated for captivating audiences over nearly five decades, has passed away at the age of 82. The veteran actor, a cousin to SP Balasubramaniam and K Viswanath, breathed his last at 9:45 am on Saturday after experiencing a cardiac arrest at Apollo Hospitals in Hyderabad.

Debuting in the film industry with the 1982 release “Rangula Ratnam,” produced and directed by BN Reddy under the Vijaya Vauhini Pictures banner, Chandra Mohan quickly became a prominent figure in Telugu cinema. Noteworthy films from his illustrious career include “Kurukshetram” (1977), “Siri Siri Muvva” (1976), “Padaharella Vayasu” (1978), and “Seetamalakshmi” (1978). His versatility was further demonstrated through supporting roles in iconic films like “Sankarabharanam” (1980), “Chantabbai” (1986), and “Aditya 369” (1991).

Chandra Mohan transitioned seamlessly into character roles in the 2000s, gaining acclaim for his performances as an uncle and father. Notably, his portrayal of a frustrated father in “7G Brindavan Colony” (2004) stands out. Other significant appearances include “Manasantha Nuvve” (2001), “Nuvvu Naaku Nachav” (2001), “Manmadhudu” (2002), “Sankranti” (2005), and “Dhee” (2007). His last year of active work was in 2017, featuring in four films, including the Allu Arjun starrer “DJ.”

Chandra Mohan is survived by his wife Jalandhara and their two daughters. The actor’s final rites are scheduled to take place in Hyderabad on Monday. His legacy in Telugu cinema will be remembered for his impactful performances and significant contributions to the industry.
