BEVCO’s Kakkanad outlet ravaged by powerful winds: 2500 beer bottles smashed

On Friday afternoon, Kakkanad faced the brunt of a powerful gust of wind, causing substantial damage to BEVCO’s premium outlet near the Infopark in Kerala. The outlet, belonging to the Kerala State Beverages Corporation, reported significant losses as at least 250 cases of beer, totaling 2,500 bottles, were shattered within a minute due to the forceful wind.

A staff member at the outlet revealed that the wind caused a freezer to crash, fortunately without causing harm to the staff or customers present at the time. However, the situation turned perilous for several individuals on Infopark road as live electric wires fell onto moving vehicles during the intense weather. Four vehicles passing through Brahmapuram had electric lines collapse on them, prompting a quick response to disconnect the power supply and safely evacuate passengers.

Beyond the immediate impact on the BEVCO outlet and traffic, the wind wreaked havoc on the surroundings. Preliminary reports from the area indicated damage to several houses in and around Kakkanad, with trees along the seaport-airport road being uprooted. The incident underscored the potential dangers associated with sudden and severe weather events, emphasizing the need for timely precautions and emergency responses.
