Car slides down 100 ft gorge at Peerumedu

A family of three, including an eight-month-old baby, narrowly avoided a tragic incident when their car slipped down a gorge in Pambanar Town, Peerumedu, Idukki on Friday. The accident unfolded on the Kollam-Theni National Highway, involving Ajay Mathew, 33, a resident of Kumily, who was driving the car. His wife, Sajina Mathews, 32, and their infant son, Aaron, were also in the vehicle at the time as they were en route to Wayanad.

Fortunately, the car did not plummet into the considerable depth of the gorge, estimated to be around 100 feet. Instead, the vehicle descended slowly due to the presence of shrubs and creepers, eventually ending up overturned at the bottom of the ravine. Remarkably, both Sajina and the baby emerged unscathed from the ordeal, while Ajay sustained only a minor injury to his hand, reported Peerumedu CI Vishnu Kumar.

Prompt response from local residents and the fire and rescue services in Peerumedu averted further complications. The trio was swiftly transferred to Peerumedu Taluk Hospital for medical attention before authorities reached the accident site. This incident underscores the importance of quick community and emergency services’ actions in ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals involved in such precarious situations.
