The term of three RajyaSabha members from Kerala are soon coming to an end and the Left front in Kerala has the majority in assembly to win two out of those three. The two major parties in the coalition, CPI and CPI(M) has agreed to share a seat each. The RajyaSabha candidate for CPI will be former Minister Binoy Viswam, but CPI(M) hasn’t yet confirmed their candidate. Amidst this uncertainties, a word has spread that Mollywood Megastar Mamootty is one among the top contenders for the spot.

Former chairman of KTDC, Cheriyan Phillip is another frontrunner, but what works in Mammootty’s favour is his star value that goes a couple of notches ahead of Suresh Gopi, who is BJP’s star candidate. This could prove pivotal in the 2019 Loksabha elections. Innocent, another actor who won from Chalakkudy is unlikely to contest again is another factor why Mammootty could be picked.
Mammootty, one of the all time greats of Indian cinema,is well known for his allegiance to CPI(M). He is also the chairman of Malayalam Communications, the parent company of Kairali TV channel. Mammootty’s chances could be affected if the Central leadership urges to consider only someone who is actively involved in politics. The final decision is expected to come on the meeting to be held at Friday.
