Prahlad Jani is often called as a “breatharian” because he claims to live only by breathing. The 88 year old yogi from Charod village in Gujarat’s Mehsana says he spent over seven decades of his life without food or water. He is often referred to as “Mataji”.
Jani who wears red clothing has become a case of curiousity for the international community. Among the several medical examinations conducted on him, one was done by Former president A.P.J Abdul Kalam. So far all the scientists have failed to explain his way of life.

Almost 8 years before, an observational study was conducted on Prahlad Jani by Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences (DIPAS) and DRDO (Defence Research Development Organization) , where he was kept under strict isolation and continual video monitoring for 15 days. He went through MRI, Ultra sound and other tests along with periodic clinical, bio chemical, radiological and other examinations.
The conclusion of the study was that Mr Jani “has some extreme form of adaptation to starvation and water restriction as evident from serum Leptin and Ghrelin levels that have been estimated.”
The yogi says he is devoted to Goddess Amba from whom he receives energy to carry on. Devotees come to his place with their problems and Mataji sees them all without charging any fees. P.M Modi and other influential political leaders have visited his ashram to seek his blessings.
