Diwali 2023: 12 different reasons why we celebrate Diwali

Diwali is the festival of lights. It is celebrated across the globe. Deepawali, Deepavali, or Diwali is the festival of lights. ‘Deep’ means ‘light’ and ‘avali’ means ‘a row’. It falls on the last two days of the dark half of the Hindu month of Kartik.  This year Diwali is taking place on November 12, 2023.

There are various reasons for which people celebrate the festival of lights. Here are 12 of them:

Symbol of inner light that protects from spiritual darkness: Diwali symbolises the victory  of light over darkness and good over evil. It marks the return of Lord Rama after defeating the demon king Ravana and the victory of Lord Krishna over Narakasura.

Spiritual enlightenment: Diwali is a time for spiritual reflection and the pursuit of inner awakening. It is often associated with the worship of Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity.

Family reunion: Diwali is a time for families to come together, strengthening bonds, and celebrating togetherness.
