Indian Air Force officer Manisha Padhi becomes India’s first woman Aide-De-Camp

Aizawl: Squadron Leader Manisha Padhi, a 2015 batch Indian Air Force (IAF) officer made history by becoming the first female to be appointed as the Aide-De-Camp (ADC). Manisha Padhi was appointed as ide-De-Camp (ADC) to the Governor of Mizoram, Hari Babu Kambhampati.

‘Squadron Leader Manisha Padhi appointed as Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the Governor of Mizoram. Squadron Leader Manisha is India’s first woman Indian Armed Forces officer to be appointed as Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the Governor of the country,’ the Governor’s office in Mizoram stated in an official release.

‘Her appointment is not just a milestone but a testament to the power of women breaking gender norms and excelling in different fields. Let’s celebrate this remarkable achievement and continue to champion women’s empowerment in every sphere,’ Hari Babu Kambhampati said on her appointment.

Manisha Padhi is a native of Berhampur, Ganjam district, Odisha. She graduated from CV Raman College of Engineering, Bhubaneswar. Previously, Manisha Padhi served at three postings – Air Force Station, Bidar, Air Force Station, Pune, and  at Air Force Station, Bhatinda.

Aide-de-Camp (ADC)  is a title of honour, and current as well as former aides-de-camp are conferred the post-nominal letters ADC. The Service chiefs, such as the Chief of Army Staff, Navy, and Air Staff, typically have three aides-de-camp. The President of India has five aides-de-camp (three from the Army and one each from the Navy and the Air Force).There is also one honorary aide-de-camp from the Territorial Army.
