Heavy Monsoon Rain Lash Northern Kerala: 10 Went Missing In Landslide

Heavy rains have thrown life out of gear in parts of Kerala. The monsoon rains have so far left over 21 people dead in the state. On Wednesday night, heavy rains lashed Kozhikode and Kannur, leading to severe waterlogging in many parts. According to reports, three deaths are reported while 10 people were suspected to have gone missing due to rains.

Images from Kozhikode showed severe waterlogging in parts of Kozhikode following heavy rainfall in the city. Teams of National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Management team have been deployed in Kozhikode.

The intensity of rains is likely to decrease over the next few days. According to Skymet weather, the off-shore trough that has been extending along the coast of Karnataka and Kerala coast has now weakened. It says that the monsoon rains will revive once again around June 19 along the Karnataka and Kerala coast.

Earlier last week, torrential rains in Kerala had claimed 16 lives and caused damage to crops worth over Rs 6 crore, Minister for Revenue E Chandrasekharan said.
