Equity investor’s wealth grew by Rs 46 lakh crore

Mumbai: Indian equity investors became richer by Rs 46 lakh crore in Samvat 2079. Samvat 2079 came to an end on Friday. The  total investor wealth grew by Rs 46 trillion or 17% to Rs 320.3 trillion.

The combined market valuation  of all BSE-listed companies stood at Rs 320 lakh crore at the end of Friday. It was at Rs 276 lakh crore at the start of the Samvat on October 24 last year.

During Samvat 2079, the Sensex gained 9.3%, while Nifty climbed 10.3% in comparison to the previous Samvat where both the indices were in the negative 0.8% and 1.4%, respectively. For Samvat 2078, the index had declined by 1%, while in Samvat 2077, it had gained over 40%. Tata Motors was  the top gainer on the Nifty this Samvat, followed by L&T, ONGC and Bajaj Auto. 5  out of the top 10 gainers on the Nifty 50 this Samvat were PSU stocks. The Nifty Midcap index gained 32% for the Samvat, while the Smallcap index gained 37%.

Nifty PSU index also increased about 53.15%, while Nifty Bank and Nifty Private Bank gained 7.11% and 8.03%, respectively. BSE MidCap index rose 30.86% and BSE SmallCap advanced 33.84%. The large cap index, BSE LargeCap gained 8.22% in Samvat 2079.

Sectors such as industrials, capital goods and realty were the top contributors to the index growth. BSE Industrials climbed 57.04%, followed by BSE Realty up 54.04% and BSE Capital Goods rising 49.77%.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) were bullish for most part of the Samvat 79. They purchased stocks worth Rs 1.45 trillion ($17.7 billion) while domestic institutional investors invested in Rs 1.78 trillion.
