Gulf country announces new rules for hiring domestic workers

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia announced new rules for hiring domestic workers. Saudi Authorities has set the minimum age for an unmarried Saudi man or woman at 24 years to obtain a domestic worker visa. The regulations were announced by Musaned, a government platform in charge of domestic labour in Saudi Arabia.  The Musaned platformis  under the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD).

According to new rules, Saudi citizens, Gulf nationals and foreign wives of Saudi men and their mothers as well as holders of Saudi premium residency permits are allowed to apply for getting visas to recruit overseas domestic labour, depending on the employers’ financial capabilities.

According to financial capacity rules, if the first visa is issued, it is sufficient to specify the salary, and the balance of the bank document for issuing the visa should be SR40000, while the minimum salary in the event of issuing a second visa is SR7000 and the balance of the bank document is SR60000. The minimum salary required to issue a third visa is SR25000 and the balance of the bank account is SR200000.

Domestic workers in the kingdom include housekeepers, drivers, housemaids, cleaners, cooks, guards, farmers, tailors, live-in nurses, tutors and nannies.
