The Hyderabad municipal authorities poisoned 150 dogs to death

Activists have accused the municipal authorities of poisoning close to 150 dogs to death. One of the most prominent voices in this regard is of Krishna Reddy. A resident of the city’s Jillelaguda area, Reddy has alleged that municipal bodies in Meerpet killed a stray dog on May 15, one that he had raised since it was a pup, reported.

Reddy said that the people in his locality raised that dog ever since she was a puppy and describes her as a docile animal that would never harm anyone. “We used to frequently give her milk and biscuits and she was free to walk into our house and make herself comfortable,” he added. Even more saddening is to learn that the dog had recently given birth to four pups, two of whom died soon after her death.

However, Reddy is not the only one who has accused local authorities of poisoning street dogs. A large number of Hyderabad’s activists are up in arms against the municipal body who they claim have poisoned 150 dogs. According to them, the drive to exterminate street dogs began on Friday but a large number of them were killed on May 15.

Backing their claim, activists managed to secure CCTV footage from residential cameras, screenshots of which have been shared with the media. It was also reported by a section of the media that the sanitation supervisors reprehensible for the drive have been suspended since. Activists have also claimed that a police case under Section 429 of the IPC (Mischief by killing or maiming cattle or any animal of value) has been lodged along with sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
