Yoga for a healthy sex life

As some say,”men have sex to relax, but women must be relaxed to have sex”, a stress-free environment is conducive to an efficient and healthy sexual intercourse. You don’t have to try the strenuous positions portrayed in the Kama Sutra to make happy your loved ones. All you need is do some yoga postures which will give you a well-balanced state that will in turn help in making out your love with your dear.

Yoga, as an extended form of meditation, will calm the body and the mind. The most blessed beneficiaries of yoga are women as doing Yoga reduces their stress levels which mar sexual arousal.Dr.Anita Sadaty, MD, a gynaecologist in the US says female sexual interest is only partly rooted in hormonal balance but more significantly in the level of stress hormone balance.

For men too yoga helps in getting themselves relaxed which aids them in enjoying sex, performing more fervently. In a study involving 68 men with Premature Ejaculation(PE) which was published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, it had been found out that men doing regular yoga were showing the same improvement as those who took Prozac(fluoxetine) for PE.

Here the relevant thing is that Yoga is “feasible, safe, effective and acceptable non-pharmacological option for PE”.

A study conducted on 40 healthy women which were also published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, asked them to practice nearly two dozen yoga poses which were thought to improve pelvic muscle tone, release tight hip joints, and boost mood, each hour a day. They were also told to do breathing exercises and relaxation techniques.

At the beginning and end of that 12-week program, they were asked to complete a sexual function questionnaire on the base of which their desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, lower pain, and overall satisfaction were checked. After doing Yoga majority of them testified significant increases in their scores. Nearly two-thirds of the women claimed to be more satisfied in their sexual lives than before. For women above 45 years of age, greatest improvements occurred in arousal and lubrication.

In an October 2017 study published in the journal Pain Medicine, researches suggested women with chronic pelvic pain to practice yoga for pain management which could improve their quality of life as well as sexual function.

Many Yoga poses are there which enhance sexual health and you can choose one which best suits you, Iyengar or basic Hatha yoga or a gentle restorative yoga, any type as per your need.

DVDs like Better Sex Through Yoga focuses on poses that enhance sexual health.

Ellen Barret, who wrote the book Sexy Yoga, is a yoga instructor in Litchfield, Connecticut. She recommends Triangle Pose, Cobra Pose and Wide-Legged Straddle pose to enhance sexual health of both men and women. Each pose should be maintained up to 3 minutes for the best results.

The Triangle Pose was featured in the Journal of Sexual Medicine in which they classified it as a pose which strengthened the muscles in the thighs and hips and also that which promoted hormonal balance.

Barrett considers Cobra Pose as a “heart opener”, which will help one to give and receive love. Another benefit of it is the increase in overall energy.

Finally, the Wide-Legged Straddle increases the range of motion in your hips and also boosts blood flow to the pelvis.

In the case, you have been not doing exercises for a while, consult a physician before starting the Yoga practice.
