Meet Anny, youngest woman commander of a Boeing 777

Anny Divya from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh recently became the youngest woman ever to fly a Boeing 777 at 30 years of age.

“From a child, I always wanted to be a pilot, although I didn’t have much guidance on how to become a pilot,” Anny told Mirror Now in an interview. Anny overcame hurdles to achieve something that was always considered an out-of-bounds job for women in India.

“My parents have always been very supportive even though there were people telling them not to send me to flying lessons and the fees were a lot for them to pay at that time, but they managed,” she further added.

In the interview, she stated that she had had the opportunity to command smaller Boeing 737 before that, but she let go of the chance to the anticipation of winning the opportunity to command the larger 777, which she eventually did.

The Boeing is a large twin-engine airliner developed by Boeing Commercial Airplanes, and the longest range aircraft and largest twin jet in the world.

Divya completed her pilot training at Indira Gandhi Rahtriya Uran Akademi at the age of 19 and went on to bag a job at Air India in 2006, as per media reports.

Annie regularly flies to New York, Chicago and San Francisco now.
