Mumbai river turns dogs bright blue

Toxic waste made dogs in Mumbai blue. Following a formal complaint from environmentalists regarding pollutants being thrown in the Kasadi river, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board officials conducted a survey of the Taloja industrial area.

MPCB regional officer Anil Mohekar said, “For the last two days, our officials have been inspecting the Taloja site to check for pollution.

There was a dyeing unit on the outskirts of the industrial zone and there was a leakage which had caused the chemicals to get mixed with the water body.

The dye manufacturer has been asked to plug the leakages at the unit.” Activist Arati Chauhan of Navi Mumbai Animal Protection Cell said,

There is a strong stench of various chemicals and the colour of Kasadi river is dark and muddied.” There are over 970 industrial units functioning in the Taloja industrial region.

The local activists alleged that the chemical waste is released into the waterbody leading to pollution.

The latest blue colour coating on a stray dog, photographed by activists recently in Taloja, is allegedly due to a chemical dye unit in the vicinity, says the paper.
