J&K : Locals foil robbery attempt at bank by pelting stones at militants

This was yet another case of stone-pelting incident in Jammu and Kashmir. However, this time, the police applauded the efforts of the stone-pelters.

Locals in the Noorpora area of the Kashmir valley thwarted a major bank robbery attempt at Jammu and Kashmir Bank’s branch by militants today by pelting stones at them, forcing the militants to flee the spot.

The militants also fired at the crowd that pelted stones at them to prevent the bank robbery.

Complimenting the bravery of the locals, Munir Khan, the Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Range told the news agency, “Terrorists entered the Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch in Tral’s Noorpora, and they obviously wanted to loot public money. Compliments to the people as they resisted very bravely that made the terrorists retreat.”

As per police, Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind’s Zakir Musa, accompanied by two other militants entered the bank branch and after firing a few shots started ransacking the premises.

However, a few locals who were present in the nearby area rushed towards the building after hearing the gunshots. They raised an alarm about the robbery and also pelted stones at the militants. Facing public anger, the panicked militants shot a few rounds at the crowds before fleeing.

Reportedly, the militants had plans for a bigger heist but as the locals thwarted their plans, they managed to flee with just Rs 97,000.

The police have filed a First Investigation Report at Awantipora Police Station regarding the case and further probe was underway.

In July, former Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Musa was announced as the head of Ansar Ghazwat-Ul-Hind, the newly created al-Qaida cell in Jammu and Kashmir.
