2008 Malegaon blast case: NIA has no objection to discharge Pragya Singh Thakur

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) today gave no objection to the discharge application filed by Pragya Singh Thakur, who was arrested for her alleged role in the 2008 Malegaon blast case.

“I have filed a reply to her discharge plea. According to the stand of the agency, we have not objected to her the discharge plea,” said Avinash Rasal, Special Public Prosecutor.

Thakur last week moved a plea seeking discharge from the case, after she was granted bail by the Bombay High court.

Thakur, in her plea, relied on the observation made by the high court about the evidence available against her, along with the remarks made by the NIA while submitting the charge sheet.

The Central Agency, on May 13 last year, submitted a supplementary charge sheet, giving a clean chit to the six accused, including Thakur, and recommended to drop all charges against them.

“The ATS’s investigation is fabricated. Subsequent investigation by the NIA has shown that the investigation done by ATS was not fair. We moved a discharge plea last week,” said Thakur’s Lawyer Prashant Maggu.

The agency had said that they don’t have sufficient evidence against Thakur to prosecute her.
