Google India Search Report : Top 5 popular destinations in India

Travel and tourism is the largest service industry in India. It provides heritage, cultural, medical, business and sports tourism.

The main objective of this sector is to develop and promote tourism, maintain competitiveness of India as tourist destination and improve and expand existing tourism products to ensure employment generation and economic growth.

Google India has recently released a report of its search data and trends in the country, These are the most popular destinations in india.
1.Goa


The state of Goa, in India, is famous for its beaches and places of worship, and tourism is its primary industry. Tourism is generally focused on the coastal areas of Goa, with decreased tourist activity inland. Foreign tourists, mostly from Europe, arrive in Goa in winter whilst the summer and monsoon seasons see a large number of Indian tourists.

Goa handled 2.29% of all foreign tourist arrivals in the country in 2011.This relatively small state is situated on the western coast of India, between the borders of Maharashtra and Karnataka and is better known to the world as a former Portuguese enclave on Indian soil. Tourism is said to be the backbone of Goa’s economy.

2.Manali

The next entry in this list is Manali, the Himachal hill station that is everyone’s favorite summer vacation destination, from solo tourists to families.

Manali surrounded by the mountains of the Beas valley, and it has as many as a thousands guesthouses, hotels and other accommodations within the small boundaries of the town and in its outskirts. So popular is this place that during the peak season of April to October.

3.Ooty

Udhagamandalam, the hill station more popularly known as Ooty, also ranks among the most popular destinations in India. And like the above-mentioned places, it too is quite packed.

The place offers a pleasant climate and beautiful view no matter what time of the year, though its beauty is best experienced in the monsoon and winter months.
This is when the hill station and the nearby Nilgiri hills glow in different shades of green and mist rolls through the forests and tea estates that cover them.

The main town of Ooty is particularly crowded, but you can find a lot of places outside that are more quiet and to your liking. Called the ‘Queen of Hill Stations’, a title contested by Mussoorie up north, Ooty is a sensation and welcome change from the tropical weather of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

4.Shimla

The hill resort of Shimla around 250 km south of Manali, along a ridge that overlooks the snow-capped Himalayas in the distance and forested foothills around it.

With its rich history as the summer capital of the British Raj and its incredible views, Shimla has long been a favored destination for people from all over India.

Given all this, it comes as no surprise that many people think of Shimla first when considering Himalayan hill stations. And in spite of its popularity and the fact that there are lots of tourists during the peak seasons of March to June, Shimla remains a great place to visit.

5.Andaman and Nicobar

The Andaman Islands are an Indian archipelago in the Bay of Bengal. These roughly 300 islands are known for their palm-lined, white-sand beaches, mangroves and tropical rainforests.
Coral reefs supporting marine life such as sharks and rays make for popular diving and snorkeling sites. Indigenous Andaman Islanders inhabit the more remote islands, many of which are off limits to visitors.
