Dubai Police plans to link home CCTV cameras with police

The Dubai Police are planning to link the surveillance cameras – installed in the houses and villas registered with the police under the home safety programme – with the police operations room, said a senior official.

According to Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, assistant commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police for criminal investigation, the police will cooperate with the Dubai Municipality to implement the plan.

The programme seeks to apply the fourth generation system, which is based on updated Google maps, in addition to relying on public comments about suspected persons. He said the police are intensifying patrols in the areas of houses registered under the programme to ensure that there are no longer thefts in villas or homes registered under the programme.

Maj-Gen Al Mansouri said thefts in the houses of people who have left on vacation from Dubai has dropped to zero per cent, thanks to the home safety programme. Last year, no theft was reported in the houses registered under the programme, he added.

The number of houses registered under the programme increased by 10 per cent last year, especially because people can register in the programme through various channels. Those who go on vacation can register through the smart application of the Dubai Police from inside or outside the country, he said, adding that registration is free of charge and it ensures that the houses are guarded properly in the absence of their owners.

“The department concerned is getting daily reports from the police patrols about the security situation of the houses. The programme team communicates with the owner of the house or the person who is entrusted to the house periodically or when necessary, during the vacation.”

He noted that registration is a necessity, even for short-term vacations, as people registered under the programme would be able to communicate with the police for enquiring their house’s safety.

Lt-Col Rashid bin Dhabawi Al Falasi, director of the department of criminal surveillance at the general department of criminal investigation of the Dubai Police, said that a campaign has been launched in all the government departments to make people aware of this service and its benefits.

“They will be informed about the programme and registration procedure. They will also be asked to provide numbers of persons within the state, including relatives, neighbours or friends who could be contacted during their absence.

The public can access the Dubai Police smart app on Android and iPhone to register for the programme, where they can fill in their personal data and identify the house through Google Maps. The request will be handled immediately so that the house will be placed under police surveillance during the specified period of vacation,” he said.

How to register?

Other than the Smart app, residents can log on to the Dubai Police website or visit their nearest police station to register. They should inform the police about their travel plans and provide an emergency phone number.

Once the police receive an application, it will be sent to a specialised police station, which will put the house under surveillance during the vacation period.
