Sheikh Mohammed orders discount on traffic fines in Dubai

In the spirit of the Year of Giving, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has announced a 50% discount on traffic and impoundment fines.

Taking to Twitter late Friday night, Dubai Media office tweeted the Ruler’s order – just days before the country celebrates Eid Al Fitr.

According to a resolution issued by Sheikh Mohammed, the reduction will be on fines incurred in 2016 and take effect as of July 1 until the end of the year. The discount will not include violations booked from the beginning of 2017 and onward.

Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Dubai Police Commander-in-Chief said: “The discount doesn’t apply on fines given in 2017, with discount effective from July 1 till year end.

”Sheikh Mohammed’s resolution comes in support of the main pillars of Year of Giving, declared by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to promote social responsibility, volunteering and nation’s service.

“It also underscores Sheikh Mohammed’s determination to foster the value of giving as a holistic community-inspired approach which engages all forces of the community to confirm that giving and generosity are two key characteristics of the role model Emirati character.”

Different channels will be provided to ease the payment process for residents. The decision will help ease the burden on society members in paying their accumulated fines.
