Massive fire breakout in London’s Camden Lock Market

A major fire broke out early today at London’s Camden Lock Market. Ten fire engines, an aerial ladder and about 70 firefighters fought the blaze on the scene, near a nightclub and a covered market, London Fire Brigade said. With no reports of any casualties, the fire has been brought under control, informed the brigade. However, crews will remain at the scene overnight damping down remaining hot spots, it said.

“The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took 37 emergency calls to the fire which was highly visible across the area during its early stages,” it said on Facebook.

The first, second and third floors, plus the roof, of a building within the market, that had different businesses, were damaged by the blaze.

Camden Lock Market, that has more than 1,000 shops and stalls, is popular with Londoners and tourists alike.

A witness said that the fire was moving very fast, and is flying through the air to the surrounding areas.

“We sent a clinical team leader and our Hazardous Area Response Team to the scene,” a spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said.

The Metropolitan Police said officers were in attendance at the scene but did not immediately have any other information.
