Umbrellas distributed in Dubai to shield public from heat

Dubai Municipality launched an initiative to distribute 1,000 umbrellas to the public to protect them from the summer heat as part of the Year of Giving.

The initiative is especially aimed at helping people who do not own cars and the nature of their work requires them to walk in the scorching sun.

Apart from metro stations, the umbrellas have also been distributed to visitors of parks and beaches in Dubai.

People have praised the move by Dubai Municipality and appreciated its concern to shield them from the heat.

Khalid Mohammed Badri, Director of Corporate Marketing and Relations Department, said that the Municipality distributed high-quality umbrellas that can prevent harmful sunlight. Places with high density of population were selected for distribution of umbrellas for the public who are exposed to the sun during the afternoon, he added.

“The corporate social responsibility concept stems from the efforts of institutions and companies in different sectors of business to balance their profitable and non-profitable activities, which benefit the community, through the adoption of charitable campaigns and voluntary and humanitarian and initiatives,” said Badri.

Omar Ahmed Al Marri, Head of Public Relations Section in the Municipality, said the campaign will last several days. Umbrellas will be distributed to everyone without discrimination.

He said that several places have been selected for the distribution of umbrellas, which can be easily used by passersby.
