Dubai adds new electric cars to its patrol fleet at the airport

Dubai is known to produce the most innovative solutions in the shortest span of time. It’s safety measure for residents is a huge leap forward compared to other countries. As of today, the Dubai Police added new electripatrol fleet patrol cars to its fleet. These environment friendly e-cars will be stationed at the Dubai Airports, the Dubai Media Office tweeted.

No specific number of electric vehicles have been revealed yet but the French-manufactured Peugeot iOn e-cars join Dubai Police’s fleet of supercars which include an Aston Martin One-77, Bugatti Veyron, McLaren MP4-12C, a Nissan GTR and Nissan Patrol 4X4 cars.

The Peugeot iOn e-car is hailed by car experts not only for being friendly to the environment but also for its quiet engine.

Peugeot iOn e-car is powered by a 47-kilowatt (64bhp) electric motor fed by a 16 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack. There’s 140lb ft of torque from standstill, so it accelerates strongly and smoothly up to typical urban speeds and can embarrass small petrol or diesel car. The lack of a gearbox makes it a doddle to drive too, WhatCar.com added.

Meanwhile, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) also rolled out 50 Tesla electric vehicles for the limo fleet of Dubai Taxi Corporation this week. Prior to this, the RTA has endorsed a contract for procuring 554 environment-friendly hybrid cars to support Dubai’s green initiative.
