17 new radars installed on Abu Dhabi roads

Seventeen new speed radars have been installed on the Ghabat Al Maha Road to Al Ashoosh Road, from Seih Al Sudairi tunnel to Al Faqa intersection in both directions.

The Abu Dhabi Police said that the solar-powered radars will start operating with effect from September 26.

Brigadier-General Ali Khalfan Al Dhaheri, Director of Central Operations, Abu Dhabi Police, said, “The installation of new radars on the roads is part of a comprehensive plan to improve traffic safety and reduce accidents.”

“The new radars were installed at areas that were found to be more prone to violations and accidents that have on many occasions led to loss of lives,” he added.

Police said that the new radars would help keep tabs on drivers’ bad behaviour and will reduce traffic violations on the roads.

The radars were fixed to catch speeding motorists, bad lane discipline, overtaking on the hard shoulder and others.

Brigadier Khalifa Mohammed Al Khaili, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department of Abu Dhabi Police, said that the radars were set at a maximum speed of 80kmph for heavy vehicles and 100kmph for light vehicles.

Drivers have been urged to observe traffic laws and speed limits to avoid being fined.
