Congress filed writ petition against EC in poll-bound Gujarat

In the growing allegations over delaying the announcement of election dates in Gujarat, the Congress has filed a writ petition against the Election Commision. The writ petition seeks “free and fair” elections in poll-bound Gujarat. The Congress has also alleged that the electoral body did not reply to demands made by the party.

The delay in announcing the poll dates has stirred a huge debate in the state of Gujarat, with several leaders from the Congress party lashing out aggressively at the EC for hampering a fair election in the state. A senior Congress leader Manoj Tewari hit out at the EC for not announcing the dates. He said that the EC has been at the receiving end for not announcing the dates. Tiwari lambasted the BJP and the Election Commission, calling for a “model code of conduct” for a fair election process.

The Congress also hit back at the BJP of a fresh bribery charge levelled by Patidar leader Narendra Patel. On Sunday, Narendra Patel had claimed that members of the BJP tried to bribe him Rs one crore and had given him an advance of Rs 10 lakh for the same. Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi also launched a subtle attack on the BJP for unfairly trying to rope in members of the Patidar community.
