Syed Salahuddin’s son arrested, 2011 terrorist case re-opened

Seyd Shahid Yusuf has been detained on October 24, 2017 in lieu with the 2011 terror funding case.

Syed Shahid Yusuf, the son of Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin. Yusuf who works in the agriculture department of the Jammu and Kashmir government was allegedly to have links to the terrorist activities that took place in Kashmir Valley.

Yusuf detention came barely a day after the Centre appointed a representative to initiate dialogue in Jammu and Kashmir.

Yusuf was found to be in touch with the Saudi based Hizbul Mujahideen operative Aijaz Ahmed Bhat who was an accussed in the case, and has received money to allegedly fuel and fund he terrorist activitesin the Valley.

Sources said that Yusuf had accepted the money transfers via Western Union. The NIA have documents to prove the basis of the fund transfers and call records of conversations pertaining to the money transfers between Yusuf and Aijaz, who is on the run.

Yusuf was detained as soon as he responded to the summons of the NIA asking him to appear for questioning. He appeared for an initial round of questioning a few days prior.

Four accused related to the case were arrested earlier – Ghulam Mohammed Bhat, Mohammed Sidiq Ghanaian, Ghulam Jeelani Liloo and Farooq Ahmed Dagga are currently lodged in Tihar Jail. The remaining two suspects Mohd. Maqbool Pandit and Aijaz Ahmed Bhat are absconding.
