The Chhattisgarh Police has arrested former BBC journalist Vinod Verma from his home in Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram today over allegations of extortion of a Chhattisgarh minister.
‘I am being targeted because I have sex tape of a Chhattisgarh Minister,’ Verma made the sensational claim as the cops were taking him to the Ghaziabad District Court from Indirapuram Police Station.
According to media reports, Verma was in possession of a sex CD involving a Chhattisgarh minister and was allegedly blackmailing him.
The police seized over 300 CDs from Verma’s house. The Ghaziabad Police confirmed that the journalist’s laptop and pen drive were also taken away. The case was registered against Verma at the Pandri Police Station of Raipur district under sections 384 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.
The senior journalist, who is also an executive member of the Editors Guild of India, was part of the fact-finding team looking into the intimidation of journalists in Chhattisgarh.
Acting on the complaint lodged at Pandri Police station, crime branch traced a video parlour in New Delhi and its proprietor told the police that a person, whom he identified as Vinod Verma, had placed orders for making 1000 CDs. Subsequently, police swooped down on Verma’s house and seized 500 CDS, pen drives, laptops and detained him.
However, the police did not elaborate anything on the contents of the CDs seized from Verma’s possession.
