Sex CD scandal: Senior journalist Vinod Varma remanded for Judicial custody

Senior journalist and former member of Editors Guild of India, Vinod Verma sent to judicial remand till November 13. The Raipur court hearing controversial sex CD scandal which alleged that it features Chhattisgarh Minister Rajesh Munat. Police filed FIR against Varma and state Congress president Bhupesh Baghel. after the complaint of political party member of Minister Munat.

Vinod Verma was arrested by the Chhattisgarh Police in connection with extortion and blackmailing case, from his residence in Indirapuram in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad. Verma has maintained that he possesses ‘a sex CD ‘of a State Minister. On Saturday, Chhattisgarh government handed the probe over the scandal to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

A case was registered on Friday, 27 October, at the Raipur’s Civil Lines police station against Baghel, Verma, and others under Section 67(a) of the Information Technology Act. After the arrest of senior journalist Vinod Verma by the Chhattisgarh police, the Congress had demanded his immediate release and accused the BJP, which is in power in that state, of squeezing media freedom. The BJP hit out at the Congress saying that it was shameful that the opposition party was confusing media freedom with criminal activities.
