Kochi Metro awarded as the national best mobility project

The Kochi Metro has been awarded as the countries best urban mobility project. The award is announced by Central Ministry for Urban Development. The award is given as an excellence in implementing the metro by KMRL (Kochi Metro Rail Limited).

The best urban development projects were being chosen as a part of the Urban Mobility India (UMI) international conference hosted by the Ministry every year. The jury panel was headed by former Secretary of the Urban Development Department Dr. M Ramachandran. The jury hailed the implementation of KMRL as an excellent urban model incorporating rail, road and water transport projects.

Union urban development minister Hardeep Singh Puri will present the award to KMRL at the UMI gathering in Hyderabad on November 6. The jury stressed that it was notable that the development of the city’s transportation was entrusted to the Metro Rail Company. Kochi beat urban development models like Naya Raipur and Chennai to bag the award.
