Housewife raped in Bengaluru lodge by a fraudster

Rape happens all the time. No matter your gender or age, you face sexual assault. It either happens with careful planning or as a spontaneous action.

A 25-year-old homemaker has alleged that she was allegedly raped several times by a Haveri businessman in a lodge at Cottonpet, central Bengaluru, and also at his relative’s house in Tumakuru district.

The woman approached Haveri Rural police on October 30 and filed a case against the businessman, Marikumar Shankar Karadagi. Haveri Rural police have transferred the case to Cottonpet police in Bengaluru for further probe.

Cottonpet police said the woman met Marikumar at Karajagi railway station in Haveri district a few months ago. She was visiting a relative in Karajagi. He introduced himself as a businessman supplying commodities to grocery stores. She believed it and was in constant touch with him over the phone.

The woman lives with her husband, a private company employee and two children in North Bengaluru.

“The accused called her on October 4 and invited her to meet him at Yeshwantpur railway station. He took her to a Cottonpet lodge, saying he wanted to discuss something with her and raped her. She alleged that he threatened her to accompany him to his relative’s house in Chikkanayakanahalli in Tumakuru district,” a police officer said.

“Marikumar raped me at Chikkanayakanahalli and later took me to his house in Haveri. Marikumar’s brother and brother-in-law abused me and assaulted me at his residence,” she said in her complaint.

On receiving the complaint, Haveri police registered a case of rape against Marikumar and a case of assault against his brother and brother-in-law.

“We arrested Marikumar from his house. He was produced before the court which remanded him to judicial custody. After all the procedures, including arrest, were over, we transferred the case to Cottonpet police. The case was transferred as the rape had been committed in Cottonpet police jurisdiction,” Haveri district police said.

Cottonpet police said they had received the documents related to the case recently and will investigate further.
