While social media has become one of the fastest platforms for people to make themselves aware of the latest happening around the world, it does spread hoaxes from time to time and makes it difficult to separate truth from lies.
Again social media `made killed’ a famous cricket player by its fast spreading nature of rumors. Pakistan cricket player Umar Akmal was reported dead by a social media site and the post goes viral.
The 27-year-old has since made two public statements on Twitter one is written and the other in video form soon after reports of him being caught up in the violent protests which have broken out in Pakistan emerged.
Police and paramilitary forces had to act after a huge protest had paralyzed Islamabad for weeks. The protest has reportedly claimed lives of at least six people, while hundreds have been injured after a religious group took exception to the country’s law minister Zahid Hamid’s resignation over a political matter.
