The polling in the state of Uttar Pradesh has the citizens wondering as to who will win the elections. Let’s take a look at the report.
Kanpur Dehat district, Uttar Pradesh recorded a high voter turnout of 73.5% in elections to two Nagar Palika Parishads — Jhinjhak and Pukhrayan on Wednesday.
A total of 908 contestants were in the fray.
Among them was President Ramnath Kovind’s daughter-in-law Deepa Kovind. After being denied ticket by the BJP for chairperson’s post in Jhinjhak Nagar Palika Parishad, Deepa entered the fray as an independent. Instead, BJP gave a ticket to Sarojini Devi.
Deepa is the wife of Kovind’s nephew Pankaj. Minor skirmishes and confusion over missing names on the voters’ list were reported from some places. District and police officials claimed that polling across the district was by and large peaceful. Some candidates alleged that the returning officer at booth number 271in Alamchandrapur in Akbarpur got selective voting done. The district election officials said that a probe has been ordered.
High polling was recorded in Derapur, Shivli, and Amraudha Nagar panchayats since early morning hours. “Voters in these Nagar Pancahayts started queuing up at their respective booths even before 7.30 am when polling started,” informed a Booth Level Officer (BLO) at Amraudha.
