College student kidnapped, raped by gang

Three men kidnapped and assaulted a college student on November 13,but she did not approach police out of fear.

The rapists had threatened her so much that even after her family kept probing, she took more than two weeks to muster the courage to speak up.

She says she was alone at her house when the trio took her away. Her statement to the district police suggests that the masked men had first knocked at her door and then barged inside. They dragged her to a car parked outside the house and put a cloth to her mouth, which knocked her unconscious.

When the drug effect wore off, she found herself inside a room, and then the three men took turns to rape her.

On November 15, they blindfolded her and dropped her around Kurali village near Lalru, where a passerby helped her get to Lalru. She managed to recall the registration number of the rapists’ car.

This clue helped the police identify brothers Gursewak Singh and Gurjinder Singh, besides Parminder Singh as the accused and charge them under Section 376 D (gang rape), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison), 363 (punishment for kidnapping). After the horrific incident, the survivor’s marriage scheduled for November 19 was called off. The accused remain on run.

Lalru station house officer (SHO) Pushpinder Singh said: “Police are after the accused, all of whom are known to the survivor because they belong to her own village. They will not be able to hide for long.”
